Breastfeeding is not only a healthy way to nurture your baby; breast milk gives vitamins and nutrients right for their growing body, but for moms as well.

I didn’t know this before, but according to studies that women who did not breastfeed or who stopped breastfeeding early have a higher risk of experiencing postpartum depression. It is said that when nursing our bodies releases oxytoxin, a hormones which promotes relaxation.

Another breastfeeding benefit based from medical studies includes reducing risk of some types of cancer. It is said that the longer moms breastfeed their kids, they are more protected against breast and ovarian cancer.

As we can see that breastfeeding are not only for our kids’ health but for ours as well. With continued breastfeeding we can lessen our risk in acquiring sickness in many ways. Now, if you’re concerned how to breastfeed in public, it can be very uneasy to nurse in public if you may ask, but there ways too to do that. There are breastfeeding clothes, nursing clothes from Milkbug, which you can wear and give you limited access or expose you in public. With these nursing clothes, you can now continue breastfeeding even in public places, and continue giving healthy milk to your kids and be healthy yourself all in the same time!

The culture we live is slowly turning away from the conservative and simple side. Our lives slowly change as generations go by and more so in the lives of children, especially teenagers. As they grow from infant to teens, lots of changes will occur as they start exploring. As teens go about their lives with their social circles, lots of influences will surely affect the way they act and think, so here comes to play the so called “control” from the parents.

Is it really necessary to control our teenager children? Do we need to have significant control over their lives to ensure they go to the right direction in their lives? The answer is really a combination of both yes and no. But what does control mean? Defining it can be in lots of different ways, but basically as the name implies, it may mean simply controlling or manipulating children’s lives, but a research in a university concludes that behavior control is the standard for behavior, and it assesses the manner in which a family expresses and maintains the standards for a particular family member’s behavior. Now the question remains, is control really necessary for our children to grow the right way and to make them responsible and good citizens in society? In this article, we will get the answer to that.

Is it necessary to control your teenagers?

Is it really that vital to put a strangle-hold for our teenagers? As mentioned, it is best to have a balance and control them in certain circumstances. Control can have both a positive and a negative effect. The negative is that too much of it can just worsen a child’s way of thinking as it can have a negative emotional and psychological effect. More so if the parent executes over-control, it may backfire and end up reinforcing the exact behaviors that parents are trying tirelessly to control like bad attitudes or sexually oriented behaviors. Children will usually rebel to make parents feel worse as retaliation for their over-controlling rules and prohibitions. So, too much control really is bad and not recommended.

Controlling teens in a positive light or manner is the right way to go. Controlling does not only mean being a master of the puppets, but it can also mean setting rules and consequences that allow children to learn qualities like being responsible and knowing how to budget etc. We will discuss ways to execute control that will surely reap great results, but to understand further, let us discuss parenting styles, and which the wrong and right styles are.

Parenting Styles

Based on research, parenting style consists of two elements, namely sensitivity and strictness. Sensitivity pertains to the extent to which parents provide warmth and supportiveness. Strictness on the other hand refers to the extent to which parents provide supervision and discipline. Based on the degree of sensitivity and strictness, we can categorize parenting styles in 4 ways:

Indulgent – More sensitive, less strict

Authoritarian – Less sensitive, more strict

Uninvolved – less sensitive, less strict

Assertive – more sensitive, more strict

Based on all styles, the best style is obviously the assertive one. Parents should be sensitive to all the needs of his or her teen but at the same time should put certain limits and boundaries. Being assertive parents means having balance in sensitivity and strictness, and this will have good effects on them. Assertiveness can be made by using the right amount and way of control, so let us dive into ways to correctly control your teens.

How to correctly control your teenagers

A very good manner of control is to simply “insert” it in return for given increased privileges or responsibility. It is like giving candy but ensuring medicine is also given. Here are some examples:

If your teenager wants to drive a car: Of course ensure that he is of legal age of 18 and has at least a student’s license. Allow your child to drive an extra family car once he or she already knows how to drive. But in return, make a list of necessary maintenance activities like buying gas, changing oil, checking tire pressure etc. Clarify to them that they are responsible for taking care of the car for it to run smoothly, and that they are free to drive provided they do the maintenance chores and that they go home according to a curfew you set. If they don’t follow the rules, get the keys back and give it back once they agree and show that they are more responsible.

If your teenager wants to go out and have fun: Sooner or later, all teens would want to hang out with their friends, but comes the scary part of potential bad influences like drugs and sex. You can control this in a positive light by making a list of chores in the house and making observing their behavior or attitude in the house, and once they pass, they can go out with friends but stating again a curfew and of course provided they behave well. Beforehand, it is vital to have an open conversation with them about drugs and sex, hence do so and let them go out. Again, contain them from going out once they commit mistakes along the way but make sure to talk it through them and explain to them everything they need to know for them to not commit the same mistakes or worst, commit huge mistakes that may have permanent damage to their lives.

Now you know these useful tips, execute them to ensure your children will be controlled the right way. Avoid over-controlling your children as this is not the natural course for your teen’s life, as naturally they will go out there and explore and will eventually have opportunities to make decisions for themselves, and putting a blockage to this flow of events in their lives will have repercussions and will just cause rebellions. Going against nature will normally cause havoc and worsen things so give the freedom your child deserves. A big help too will be to always have a good constant conversation with your children, and as research shows, having good family conversations in family lunch or dinners will always be beneficial. Having quality activities and time with them will also be good like baking pastries together or playing sports, as this will be a good time to talk about the world and things they need to know, more so all consequences about all the things they will do the wrong way.

Once all things are clear to them, trust them and give them the space they need and deserve. Just as the examples mentioned, give them space by going out but with the condition that they should meet certain conditions to make them deserve that space of going out with their friends. Containing them always will have a negative effect, as one day them might go out there and explore without knowing what is right and wrong and will cause them to commit mistakes that may have a very significant bad impact in their lives. Our teens will eventually grow up and it will be beneficial for them to learn all sorts of good attitudes while they are at a young age, and it is a must that they develop an image of their own as we cannot always impose to them that they grow up exactly like us as no two persons are exactly the same.

So spend time with your children and impose your control and bring that to a balance by giving them privileges, and soon your children will surely grow up with the image you want them to have and be good citizens of society as they go through life.

1. DON’T FORCE HIM TO BE SOMETHING HE’S NOT, AND ENCOURAGE HIM DO TO THE SAME WITH YOU.

According to the beautiful congresswoman, Lucy Torres-Gomez, don’t force him to change. ’You can’t force him to be something he’s not’. Well, I’m guilty on this.

What I’m trying to change in my hubby is his disregard in TIME. Sometimes, he just takes advantage of time and it is something we can’t get back. But since, I realized that I can’t force him to be conscious with time like me, I gradually let him be.

But this has not been an issue within our marriage.

2. KEEP YOUR IDENTITIES, BUT HAVE ACTIVITIES YOU DO TOGETHER.

I agree with Lucy here. I let him do his activities and he lets me do mine. ;-) And at the end of the day, we both got interesting stories to share from what happened during the activities we didn’t do together. And we both eagerly listen.

3. TALK TO EACH OTHER.

We rarely have silent moments, that’s why he’s already complaining that I’m already making ‘kulit’ of him. Just like Lucy and Richard, we also talk any nonsense topics until to serious stuff in our relationship. But we also value having a quiet time together. No talking. ^_^

4. BE HIS FRIEND.

For me this is true. You can’t survive your marriage if your husband is not your best friend. My husband knows everything of me. We get embarrassed with some revelations about ourselves but the end, we’ll still laugh it out loud. Friends accepts each other; and my husband is my best friend.

5. COMMIT EVERY DAY.

We never get tired saying ‘I love you’s’ everyday. We don’t only say it once but many times all throughout the day. I even encourage Little Zoie to say ‘I love you’ to me and her dad, in which she’s already used too.

6. GIVE EACH OTHER SPACE.

I admit I am the hot-headed in this relationship. But if I realized that I was the one who made a mistake or misunderstood him, I’ll quickly make ‘lambing’ and apologize. Same goes to him. ^_^

7. LEARN FROM YOUR HUBBY.

There are a lot of things I get to learn from hubby every now and then. I also positioned him to be the one to remind me if I’m already crossing boundaries, since I tend to get hot-tempered at times especially if I am stressed out. He’s the one who never loses his cool, now that I realized…

I hope this tips for a stronger marriage helped you realize some things about your marriage…. I know I do. ^_^

Just cherish each other and love one another.

I remember having interest over tarot readings, horoscopes and angels back in my teen years. I used to look for facts about angels and how psychic realms work. I read horoscopes almost everyday. ;-) I always get horoscopes updates in my email inbox before. ^_^

Truthfully, I am more interested in knowing my past life rather than seeing my future. I wanted to know if I did something good in any of my past lives, I supposed I should have talked to any free psychic chat before eh, so my frustrations of finding my past life can be unveiled to me.

This interest dissolved when I got exposed to the real life. I got busy with my working career, a daughter and a girlfriend. But what didn’t forget is to read my horoscope readings once in a while, mostly during weekends.

There’s nothing wrong getting interested with these things, well that’s my opinion, as long you know what you’re doing and your belief is only in one GOD.
